On Friday we reported to our readers that Facebook and Google were in the works of purchasing Skype for an amount between 3-4 billion. Today the Wall Street Journal has confirmed that Microsoft “is close to a deal to buy Internet phone company Skype Technologies SA for more than $7 billion, and a deal could be announced as early as Tuesday, people familiar with the matter said.” Employees from both Microsoft and Skype have not disclosed any information publicly. Rumors that the company held a value of near a billion and the Facebook and Google battle seemed a little high. Guess Microsoft got the memo early and decided to outbid both companies for the Internet phone company. Could anybody see this acquisition being beneficial to Microsoft?
